Hair care products FAQs
How often should I change shampoo?
The answer to this question depends a lot on other things that are
going on in your environment. For example, differences in water conditions
can play a large role in the kinds of shampoos that you may use. Soft
water requires different kinds of shampoos that may not be best for
hard water. Also, if you are taking prescription drugs, this can affect
how your hair looks. If you change prescriptions, you may find that
the look of your hair changes also. You may also need to change shampoos
to find the shampoo that best suits your hair. The seasons of the year
and the climates in which you spend your time may also require you to
change shampoos for healthy hair.
I read that mayonnaise can be a good conditioner for hair.
Is this true?
Well, it might make you hungry, so that may not be good. Aside from
that, using mayonnaise as a conditioner is still probably not a good
idea. This is one of those “home remedies” that some people
swear by, but by and large not putting anything that should go in a
salad on your head is probably a good rule to live by. Mayonnaise is
primarily made up of vegetable oil, vinegar, eggs, and lemon juice.
None of these ingredients can really help your hair. However, they can
cause matting, tangles and knots. Unless you want these things, you’d
be better off using a traditional conditioner. There’s a reason
that you don’t find Miracle Whip in the hair care aisle at the
store.
Can I do anything about my cowlick?
Aside from shaving your head, there are not a lot of options. Cowlicks
grow from the follicles in the scalp and the direction cannot really
be changed. One way to help tame the cowlick is to not cut your hair
in that area less than two inches short. This definitely alters the
way that you can style your hair, but it is one option. Another option
is to have a lot of hair gel on hand. This can keep the cowlick from
sticking out.
